Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) Bus Shelter Replacement Project

A bill that would allow Virginia localities the authority to build bus shelters, avoiding the state bureaucracy that has made it almost impossible to do so easily for years, is sitting on Gov. Youngin’s desk. But unless a “poison pill” provision in the bill isn’t removed in the coming days, transportation advocates say the legislation would be effectively doomed….

At a bus stop in the Woolen Mills beside an affordable housing development for seniors I've watched elderly people with walkers waiting for a bus in the rain. During the summer I've watched people standing on the side of the road under some trees far away from the bus stop to escape the heat. And, of course, there are bus stops around town that are much worse. At least this one has a bench. At others, there isn't even a sidewalk and you have to stand in the dirt.
