Tuesday's City Council meeting wasn't supposed to be about the firing of Police Chief RaShall Brackney, but there was plenty of fiery discussion about it, in what our astute public government meeting observer Molly Conger called one of the "most deranged meetings ever held in Charlottesville." Mayor Nikuyah Walker, who was open about her disagreement with the decision to fire Brackney [“ … to take what doesn’t seem like much information and terminate her in this very public way … that is shameful,” Walker said.], wanted to place that discussion on the night's agenda, but she couldn't get a second from her fellow councilors, who feared publicly discussing Brackney's firing could create legal problems, a clear sign there may be some lawsuits on the way. Jordy Yager pinpointed a few particularly troubling exchanges between Mayor Walker and detective Michael Wells, president of the Central Virginia Chapter of the Police Benevolent Association, in a Twitter thread:
