More Supportive Housing Seeks Support
Shortly after this DTM story about the Crossings was posted, Charlottesville and Albemarle County approved additional funding for Virginia Supportive Housing’s Premier Circle. VSH, in partnership with People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry (PACEM), Thomas Jefferson Area Coalition for the Homeless (TJACH), and Piedmont Housing Alliance (PHA), plans to build 80 supportive housing units for those experiencing homelessness and 60 affordable apartments, plus eventually commercial properties on the site. These partners were able to buy the former Red Carpet Inn property (which served for a brief time as a temporary homeless shelter) with a $4.25 million grant from the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, the largest in its history.
The first phase of construction was set to begin last spring, but pre-construction estimates came in at $24 million - $3.6 million over Virginia Supportive Housing's budget. The project is expected to be completed…
