Slideshow: Winter storm on the DTM

Amazing what a snow storm can do to change the look and feel of the DTM. What you notice first is the silence, the stillness, the feeling that everything has stopped or slowed way down. Java Java barista Anita Byers popped into the shop, which was closed, to take in the bakery goods that Albemarle Baking Company still managed to deliver to the front door. Across the way, Just Curry and Skybar owner Alex George looks on as crews swipe the snow off the roof-top bar's roof-top tent. At the Pavilion, crews secure themselves with ropes as they shovel off the tent-like roof that is almost the same color as the sky behind it. People trudge like penguins down the shoveled paths and tire tracks along the crossings, on their way to places that are still open, like Market Street Market and Cafe Cubano. And the snow keeps falling.
