Police shooting justified, report finds, while shooting suspect repeatedly asked officers to shoot him
"I wanna die. Shoot me. If you don't shoot me, I'm going to shoot you."
After more than four months, following a Virginia State Police investigation into the police shooting and killing of Kevin Taylor II, a 28-year-old Charlottesville resident, the Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office has released a final report on the shooting, finding that the use of force was justified.
"It must be noted that law enforcement spent nearly an hour attempting to de-escalate the situation and safely apprehend Taylor, while Taylor tried again and again to create a situation in which the officers had no choice but to shoot him to protect themselves and others," reads the report from Albemarle Commonwealth's Attorney James Hingeley. Previously, Hingeley had said that the VSP investigation was "quite lengthy and the amount of body-worn camera footage is quite extensive.”
