VSP shooting investigation finally complete

After more than three months, a Virginia State Police investigation into the police shooting and killing of Kevin Taylor II, a 28-year-old Charlottesville resident, has been handed over to the Albemarle County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Taylor fled the scene of a shooting in Waynesboro on April 10 and was pursued down I-64 over Afton Mountain and into Albemarle County before his vehicle crashed into a guardrail. Surrounded by rush hour traffic, Taylor was shot during a standoff with police and later died in the hospital.

“I hope that within the next couple of weeks, I will have a chance to review it and issue a decision,” says Commonwealth’s Attorney James Hingeley. “The written report is quite lengthy and the amount of body-worn camera footage is quite extensive.”
