Weinberger vetoes ‘hostile’ police oversight board

VTDigger - Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger has nixed the creation of a citizens police oversight board that would have the authority to conduct investigations of alleged police misconduct and take disciplinary action.

This is the dynamic that could derail our own efforts to create a CRB: the tension between police, who want, as our own police chief does, the CRB to be "devoid of political interests or personal biases" and have knowledge of and training in police work, and activists pushing for police reform, who want people from communities that have suffered the most from police misconduct to be on the CRB. City Council will end up having to make the call.
