Bills Shrugs: Will Charlottesville's megadonors help tip the scales, again?

Michael Bills and his wife, Sonjia Smith, have given nearly $17 million to mostly Democratic candidates ahead of the November 7 election - making them the state's top donors.

Update, November 7, 2023: According to the Virginia Center for Investigative Journalism today, Dominion Energy has given about $10 million to legislative candidates, and Bills' PAC Clean Virginia has given $9.4 million to counter that, helping to make this perhaps the most expensive legislative election in U.S. History. About $174 million has been raised by legislative candidates.
