Anti-Toke Governor not high on making weed sales legal, dueling homelessness stories, and gun violence trauma
Gov. Glenn Youngkin is expected not to partake when the legislation is passed to him, joining fellow Republicans worried about there being "pot shops" on every corner.
This week, Charlottesville Tomorrow and C-Ville dedicated over 5,000 words to the issue of homelessness, with C-Ville taking a broader view of the problem and CT focusing on Virginia Supportive Housing's now $24 million low-cost housing project on the site of a former motel on 29 North, which has been delayed due to rising construction costs. Both could have used some information about the Crossings in this DTM story, but together they told an important story. Sadly, it’s one we've heard over and over again.
“It’s not such a huge number that you couldn’t imagine actually housing all of those people,” Michele Claibourn told C-Ville. Claibourn co-authored the UVA Equity Center’s recent Stepping Stones Report that measured our community's well-being. “We’re not talking 10,000, we’re talking 150, right. The problem is there has not been enough political will to do so.”
